Welcome change to Working Tax Credit rules for Carers

Released 27th March, 2012|2,207 Views

If a couple with children includes one partner entitled to Carer’s Allowance, the other partner only needs to work 16 hours a week to remain eligible for Working Tax Credit.  In addition these couples may now receive some support with childcare costs through the Childcare Element of WTC – this is a completely new change, and these couples will need to let HMRC know they are paying for registered childcare to get the extra help.  This is good news for carers, but the 24 hour rule will go ahead from 6 April 2012 for other working parents, causing much hardship.
