Benefits if you care for a disabled person

If you care for a disabled person, you may be able to claim Carer’s Allowance, and in some cases, Income Support.  You should also check other benefits for your circumstances, for example Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit. The fact that you are a carer may help you to get help from these benefits.

Carers UK is a good place to start if you are a carer. There is also information about all these benefits on Direct Gov.

 

Working Families has a project for the parents of disabled children who work or want to work called Waving not Drowning.
