You can claim Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for children under 16 but you will have to show that your child needs more care, supervision or guidance than other children of the same age. You cannot get DLA for a child under three years old because they have problems walking, but you may be able to get it for their care needs.
Because the DLA claim form is long and complicated, it is a good idea to get some advice to help you fill it in.
For more information about DLA for children under 16, use Direct Gov or one of the other websites with benefit information.
Working Families has a project Waving not drowning, for the parents of disabled children who work or want to work.
