Ask your employer how many working fathers are on the payroll.
Chances are, the figure isn't known and the issue has never
even been thought about. Working fathers are almost invisible. We
cling onto the old pattern of family breadwinner, forgetting the
role working dads now play in the home.
Fathers need the confidence to speak out, to make their case for
a better balance between work and home. The work-life debate is
not a female issue, it is an employment and family issue.
Within current employment patterns, much of the burden of work
falls on the shoulders of men. In the UK, professional and managerial
workers in particular suffer from a long hours culture the
most onerous in Europe.
We have a text advice service for fathers: Edads. Simply text your query about your working rights to 07800 00 4722 and one of our advisers will get back to you.
