Top Employers for Working Families are announced today
Organisations across the UK who are leading the way in building flexible, family friendly workplaces have been unveiled today. Employers large and small from many sectors compete annually to gain a place on the list of Top Employers for Working Families.
This year’s Top Ten – in alphabetical order – are:
- American Express
- Barclays Bank
- Crown Prosecution Service
- Intellectual Property Office
- Lloyds Banking Group
- Pinsent Masons
- Royal Bank of Scotland
- Southdown Housing
Employers answer in-depth questions and are scored on four key areas to build a comprehensive picture of their flexible and family friendly working environment. These are: integration which looks at culture, attitude and how far flexibility has become embedded; policy which looks at the creation, development and deployment of flexibility; consistent practice which considers how well flexibility is supported and measurement and results which looks at the effects of flexibility on the organisation, and their ability to understand those effects.
In 2017, Top 30 employers include organisations from England, Scotland and Wales and from large and small, public and private sector organisations.

Congratulations to the wide range of organisations whose flexible, agile workplaces have earnt them a much-coveted place on 2017’s list of Top 30 Employers for Working Families. The annual benchmark provides a clear picture, not just of current practice, but also the evolving way in which organisations think about work life balance and flexible working.
All the evidence shows that organisations where flexibility is properly integrated into the culture out-perform their peers. Those companies that want to be the best for their people and for productivity should benchmark their progress with us to move forward on their journey.
But with 11 million working parents in the UK, flexibility has to be a mainstream way of doing business. Employers should be looking to find the flexibility that is inherent in every role, rather than reaching for the tired 9-5 model.

The Top Employers for Working Families Benchmark 2017
The Top 30 Employers for Working Families are announced at the National Work Life Week Conference on 2nd October in London.
The Top Employers for Working Families benchmark was established by Working Families in 2010. The benchmark is UK-wide and open to all Working Families’ employer members.
The benchmark is a way for employers to see whether they are ahead or behind the curve in the development of flexible and family friendly working, and to get tailored feedback and next steps support from Working Families.
